Day 1 – By rail to Switzerland
The magnificently restored London St. Pancras International station is where your exciting holiday begins.
Before you board the train to Paris, relax and take the opportunity to admire the stunning glass roof and then enjoy your journey by Eurostar at speeds of up to 300 kmh. When you travel in Standard Premier Class (formerly 1st class) a light meal and drinks will be served for your comfort on board. On your arrival at the Gare du Nord a private taxi will be waiting for you to whisk you across Paris to the Gare de Lyon where you to continue your journey on to Zurich on board the TGV Lyria.
Your journey takes you through France and past the beautiful Swiss scenery to your overnight stay in the smart and stylish city of Zurich alongside the sparkling lake of the same name. It is just a short walk (450 yards) to the stylish and highly-regarded Hotel Continental (4 star).
Day 2 – Through Switzerland to Milan and onwards to Venice
Most of Zurich’s sights can be found between the main station and Lake Zurich itself, on either side of the River Limmat. Along the Bahnhofstrasse you can find designer boutiques as well as traditional shops; in the Old Town enjoy the burgher houses, the baroque Rathaus (Town Hall) and the impressive churches, the Grossmünster, the Fraumünster and St Peterskirche – which is the city’s oldest church with its clock face the largest in Europe, all before making your way back to the station.
As you return to Zurich station, prepare yourselves for the scenic journey along the impressive Gotthard route through the Swiss Alps. The line transports you through picturesque scenery, climbing to the foot of the snow-capped Alps and through the Gotthard Base Tunnel, the world’s longest tunnel and a marvellous feat of engineering, which opened fully in December 2016. You soon emerge and continue across the Swiss border and through the outstanding Italian Lakes before arriving in Milan.
In Milan change trains and join the Eurostar City service to Venice. Arrive at Venezia Santa Lucia station and a private water taxi will be waiting outside to transfer you in comfort and style along the Grand Canal to your hotel for the next four nights, the welcoming and attractive Hotel Ai Mori d’Oriente (4 star), which is just a short journey away.
Days 3, 4 and 5 – Venice
Explore the enchanting city of Venice at your leisure. This captivating city is especially beautiful at sunset and after dark when the locals head out and the crowds have dispersed. Take a gondola ride on the Grand Canal relaxing as you enjoy the beauty of this unique city.
Discover the city at your leisure, getting lost along the alleyways, coming across St. Mark’s Square, the stunning ornate stone bridges and Byzantine architecture; all intertwined with canals and lagoons. Take a boat ride out on to the lagoon, to the diverse islands, including the home of glass-blowing – Murano.
Day 6 – Venice to Lake Geneva
After breakfast your water taxi gently guides you back to the station, Venice’s dream-like facades recede as you board the Eurostar City service toward Milan. Changing at Milan you join the Euro City service as it heads through the Alps for the breath-taking journey along the Simplon Pass and onwards to Montreux, a charming lakeside town on Lake Geneva’s picturesque shores.
Located literally opposite the station, your hotel for your overnight stay is the stylishly refurbished Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic (4 star superior). Take a leisurely stroll down to sparkling Lake Geneva, explore the beautiful lakeside town, which is famous for residents such as Freddie Mercury and its world-renowned jazz festival.
Day 7 – Free-time in Montreux – Montreux to London – Homeward bound
Enjoy a late breakfast or brunch before you head back to the station. You have plenty of time to discover more of Montreux’s charms; maybe head toward the Château de Chillon (payable locally) just a short journey away by (free) trolleybus. Later depart by train to Lausanne, where you change for the service to Paris. Take a private transfer across the French capital and connect with the Eurostar to London, enjoying a light meal and drinks on board as you are whisked back to St Pancras International.
