A brief look at the amazing talent that is Mary Berry
Mary Berry is an iconic British food writer who is very well known for her family-friendly recipes and cooking style. From a very young age, Mary had a talent with cooking and studied domestic sciences at school before she went on to study catering at college. From there she went on to study at the world-famous Le Cordon Bleu School in France. Inspired by her great grandfather who was a highly skilled baker it is clear to see how Mary’s love of preparing food developed; though her career didn’t all start off with the bright lights and fame we know follows her today in the world of cooking and baking.
One of the first jobs Mary had was working for the electricity board which then led on to other jobs including a recipe tester and then developing and writing recipes for the egg council and flour advisory board. As her skills and confidence developed so did her career as she then became the food editor of housewife magazine in the 1960s. In the 1970s she published her very first cookbook ‘The Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook’.
Today Mary is as successful as ever and has published over 75 cookery books, the most popular being the ‘Baking Bible’. She has her own collection of salad dressings and sauces which she collaborated with her daughter and can be found in many high street stores. Mary has presented many of her own cookery programmes and been a regular on food segments during a range of TV shows. She is currently most well known for her fantastic role as a judge on the ‘Great British Bake Off’ which she showed both her exceptional food knowledge and fun personality.
